I like your tea bag teachings. That could be a thing. The Ali quote reminded me of this one (it's attributed to the CEO of Disney): "How you do anything is how you do everything." It's so, so true.
And here's a fun fact for you---Emily Carr, forever frugal and innovative, made frames for her paintings from her picket fence.
Love your mixed media style, Brenley. It's layered...like you.
Thank you! Yeah, I would have to say there's a number of layers in here, a few I could do without but I've learned to love them all the same. :) That's a great quote - also one that's in one of my journals. I did not know this about Emily Carr. That is so cool. I have made some jenky things around here with wood from the old fences that line the paddocks. It's beautiful stuff but most of it is quite rotten sadly. I thought I could run some boards through a planer but it just breaks apart. Once I'm feeling confident about my hand planing skills in January, I plan on giving them another go. x
You have a planer? Kim will be over with a stack! If you really want to visit a reclaimed wood la la land, check out Timeless Materials. They used to have a location in Southampton but the Waterloo one is a wonderland. I wrote a story about their cafe years ago---they repurposed an old chicken coop and converted it into a cafe.
As for Emily Carr, fun fact---she taught her monkey, Woo, how to embroider! So, anything is possible! https://www.timelessmaterials.com/
it is exciting to see what you are creating. your paintings are really really impressive (art-making skill!) and inspiring (of thought and feeling). wow.
I am very impressed! The painting and the room reinforce each other. The room gives the painting a home without constricting it. The painting opens up the room for new spaces. This space is wonderfully organic, soft, open and airy, but with a warm sunny cosiness that invites you to linger. A space (painting with room) for arriving, lingering and (inner) traveling through time. This is what I’m feeling right now. Wonderfull!
